Transportation Planning, Development, & Maintenance
Planning, developing, and maintaining New Hampshire’s multifaceted transportation systems results in a wide variety of historic resources.
New Hampshire's historic transportation systems include a wide variety of resource types such as those developed for the comfort of the traveling public, those that reflect astounding innovations in transport, and those constructed simply in support of the planning, designing, and maintaining other parts of the system.
There are numerous transportation resources to study in New Hampshire beyond bridges, culverts, and railroads. There's the evolution of New Hampshire's roadways through the centuries; the construction of airports throughout the state in the 20th century; the introduction of rest areas in the post-WWII period; and, throughout New Hampshire is the active and remnant evidence of State and community-level efforts to design ever-better transportation systems and maintain the ones that exist.
