Historic District & Heritage Commissions

The New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources is committed to being a resource for historic preservation advocates in local government.

New Hampshire’s rich history is often best celebrated at the local level. The Heritage Commissions and Historic District Commissions of our state are dedicated to embracing historic preservation in their communities. Residents and visitors alike benefit from the work done by Heritage Commissions and Historic District Commissions.

There are an estimated 90 communities in the state that have either a Heritage Commission or a Local Historic District, and many of those communities have both. The New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources has resources available for the members of these Commissions and those who support them.
